Does dieting make you fat?

Q: "Which diet do you recommend?"
A: from Dr Alex Johnstone, The Rowett Research Institute:

It is difficult for me to give a direct answer to this question! We are all individuals and it is generally accepted that one diet does not suit all people. Factors such as your medical and medication history may be important to consider before initiating a weight loss regime. However, some of my research at the Rowett Institute has indicated that you should aim for a slow but steady weight loss of about 0.5kg a week. This rate of weight loss should maximise your fat mass loss, compared with a rapid `quick fix' diet.
